Sandpaper grit converter.
Same digits, different appetite. Find out which one you brought home.
A grit number is a particle size wearing a costume. European paper prints a P in front (FEPA); most US paper prints the bare number (CAMI); 3M's Trizact uses its own A-grades, which only 3M's pairings translate. Pick the scale on your pack, type the number, and get the same scratch on every other scale.

Sizes are average particle diameters from the published FEPA (ISO 6344) and CAMI (ANSI B74.12/B74.18) tables, which stop at P2500 and CAMI 1000. "Nearest" means within 10%; otherwise both neighbors are shown. Trizact pairings are 3M's own, from its Trizact brochure. Scotch-Brite pad colors
Nonwoven pads are graded by mineral and fineness, not grit, so they don't convert cleanly. 3M's grade codes and the closest paper are on the Scotch-Brite chart.

Questions people ask
What is the difference between P-grade and regular grit?
A P in front of the number means FEPA grading (ISO 6344), the European standard Festool, Mirka and Norton 3X use. A bare number on US paper is usually CAMI (ANSI B74.12/B74.18). Up to about 220 the two agree closely. Above it CAMI runs finer for the same digits: CAMI 400 averages about 23 microns, close to P800, while P400 averages about 35.
What is P400 in CAMI grit?
About CAMI 320. P400 averages 35 microns; CAMI 320 averages 36.
How many microns is 2000 grit sandpaper?
P2000 averages about 10.3 microns on the FEPA table, the same as CAMI 1000. A bare "2000" on US paper is past the end of the published CAMI table, so there is no standard figure for it.
What grit is Trizact A5?
3M pairs Trizact A5 with P3000, which is past the end of the published FEPA and CAMI tables. Don’t read the A-number as microns: 3M pairs A45 with P400, which averages 35 microns on the FEPA table, and A160 with P120, which averages 125.
