About UltraRough.

The internet is full of polite, padded, AI-generated takes on sandpaper. Nobody was writing about abrasives the way abrasives deserve — with specificity, with conviction, and with some awareness that the category is, let's say, inherently evocative. UltraRough is the correction.

What we cover

Every form factor of abrasive: sheets, rolls, discs, belts, sponges, kits. The sanders that drive them. The compounds that follow them. We track Mirka, Norton, 3M, Festool, DeWalt, Makita, Diablo, Gator, Dura-Block, Indasa, POWERTEC — every brand worth recommending, plus the ones that aren't, so you know to skip them.

How we pick what makes the cut

We look at material science, spec sheets, and the forums where people who do this for a living argue about which brands they actually keep coming back to. The auto-body finisher on his fourth case of Mirka Golds tells you something the product page doesn't. We read the threads, cross-reference the specs, and track which SKUs show up in pro shops versus which ones live on the clearance shelf.

Nothing here is sponsored. Nobody paid for their position. If something made the lineup, it's because the people who use it won't stop reaching for it.

How we make money

Amazon Associates. When you click a link and buy something — anything, not just what we covered — we earn a small commission. The price you pay is identical either way. We've never taken a paid placement and we're not starting.

The grit you've been looking for.
